Ribbon Cutting Photos - Nov 24th 2008

Revealing the new Lake Anna YMCA Community Center - November 24th

Ribbon Cutting scheduled for November 24, 2007  – This November 24th, at 4 pm, Lake Anna YMCA Board of Trustees, Charter Members and major donors will come together for the Official Ribbon Cutting of the new Lake Anna YMCA Community Center.

The collaboration between the Barberton Community Foundation (which provided a $6 million grant), Barberton Citizens Hospital, Akron Area YMCA, the Babcock & Wilcox Company, the City of Barberton, Barberton Parks and Recreation and all other generous donors, made it possible for the community to build the 57,000 square-foot Lake Anna YCMA Community Center. The nine million dollar facility will serve Barberton and all other surrounding communities, as it combines a fitness center, natatorium, senior center and a step-down rehab and sports center into one, state-of-the-art facility.

Complete with a spacious Barberton Community Center (Parks and Recs) Active Adult Division and an Anna Dean physical therapy and performance center, operated by Barberton Citizens Hospital, the Lake Anna YMCA Community Center unites members and partners under one roof, celebrates diversity and builds strong kids, strong families, strong communities.

“The Lake Anna YMCA Community Center is a magnificent facility that benefits the lives of children, teens, adults and families. This would not have been possible without the teamwork and collaboration of our wonderful partners, volunteers and communities,” announced Vince Mealy, Executive Director of the Lake Anna YMCA Community Center.

The Lake Anna YMCA Community Center will honor three ribbon cutters Saturday afternoon to reveal the magic to the community. Among the three, is a 9 year-old girl that was so excited about the facility that, without her parents knowing, she broke open her piggy bank, as well as approached her teacher, classmates and hairdresser the next day to ask for donations. The young girl generously raised and donated $26.28 to the new Lake Anna YMCA Community Center.

Following the Ribbon Cutting ceremony will be the Lighting of Lake Anna and the Christmas Walk from 5-9pm. The public will have the chance to stroll around Lake Anna for a magical holiday experience of Christmas lights and live entertainment.

The official Grand Opening of the Lake Anna YMCA Community Center is scheduled for this December 15th. Everyone is welcome to come together on this day for a Mardi Gras celebration.

Akron Area YMCA anticipates same success at new Lake Anna YMCA Community Center, appoints former Green Family YMCA executive director Vince Mealy as new leader of Lake Anna YMCA Community Center

Barberton, OH – March 15, 2007 – The Akron Area YMCA has recently announced the appointment of the new Lake Anna YMCA Community Center executive director, Vince Mealy. As the executive director of the Green Family YMCA for the past six years since it opened, Mealy has proven the ability to successfully facilitate quality programs while increasing membership and community support.

During his time at the helm at the Green Family YMCA, Vince Mealy was able to increase memberships by 57%, exceeded annual fundraising campaign goals by 36% and successfully led Capital Building Campaign which raised $540,000, resulting in an 8,000 square foot expansion in 2006. Proven to successfully lead and direct recreational facilities and family programming, Mealy will be expected to deliver for the Lake Anna YMCA Community Center. “We’ve seen great success in Green and look forward to applying what we’ve learned to the new Lake Anna YMCA Community Center,” Mealy said.

Working effectively with Barberton Community Foundation, Barberton Citizen’s Hospital and the City of Barberton over the past year, assisting with program development and building design, Mealy has continually shown his involvement through every aspect of the new Lake Anna YMCA Community Center.  He also serves on the Greynolds Basketball Classic committee, an event that raised money for the Lake Anna YMCA Community Center and stroke awareness programs this past holiday season. His experience and expertise make him an ideal match for executive director at the new Lake Anna YMCA Community Center. “The new Lake Anna YMCA Community Center will be as great as the people involved in it and it is not too late to get involved. We are currently accepting pledges as well as charter memberships and commemorative brick purchases, all to benefit the new Lake Anna YMCA Community Center.”

As a new branch of the Akron Area YMCA, Lake Anna YMCA Community Center will provide opportunities for families to strengthen their spirit, mind and body through hundreds of programs, services and volunteer opportunities. Akron Area YMCA serves the community with seven full-time child-care sites and more than 30 before and after school sites, five membership branches, and the Phoenix alternative learning school in Medina and East Akron.
