The Canal Square YMCA turned 75 in 2006, and is better than ever! Once a YMCA that rented rooms to men working in the rubber industry, now the Canal Square branch is a place where people go to grow their spirits, minds and bodies.
In 1986 the building underwent a $10 million renovation, and now offers top-notch fitness equipment, a group exercise room with a special shock-absorbing floor, original racquetball courts (which aficionados swear by, saying the concrete walls are better for the game), a beautiful, art-deco style pool, family locker room and Phoenix classrooms.
